J.B. Adams, Charlie Terr, Paul Daigle, Kristi Gillory, and Jesse Lege are teaching accordion this year. Michelle Kaminsky, Al Berard, Tracy Schwarz, and Edward Poullard will teach fiddle. Christy Leichty and Jim Phillips will teach dance. Yvette Landry will teach electric bass. Randy Vidrine will teach guitar. Jackie Miller will be teaching Cajun cooking again this year. Larry Miller, Cedric Watson, and Kristi Gillory will be teaching optional mini-classes, and Blake Miller will be on hand as a staff musician.
Each day starts with a choice of jam sessions or a visit with various artists; a cup of good strong Cajun coffee is always available. All classes meet for about two hours in the morning and again in the afternoon. Each afternoon the entire group gathers for special presentations on Cajun and Creole music or culture. The 2009 Danceathon is on at a great new location in Clark NJ. The Deutscher Club has an outdoor pavilion with: weather safe roll down sides, a wood dance floor, stage, covered picnic tables, along with real bathrooms and an outdoor picnic grove.
The party is now one day long and we continue with the great all day pot luck meal, along with burgers and hot dogs from the grill, water and soft drinks all included with your admission. Wine and beer are available for purchase at a nominal price.
The host hotel is the Crowne Plaza, 36 Valley Rd, Clark, NJ. Discounted rates of $79 for 1 King bed, $89 for 2 standard beds are available by calling (732) 574-0100 by June 30, 2009 and requesting the Danceathon room rate. The hotel is about 5 minute drive from the event.
